Acts 2:38 — The Gospel in Action
We believe the message preached by the Apostle Peter on the Day of Pentecost gives us a clear pattern for responding to the Gospel:
“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” — Acts 2:38 KJV
We believe this verse teaches us to Repent, Be Baptized, and Receive the Holy Ghost.
Repent — Death to the old life.
Repentance means turning away from sin and turning our hearts toward God. It is a genuine change of heart and direction—dying to the old way of life and choosing to follow Jesus Christ.
Be Baptized in Jesus’ Name — Burial of the old life.
We believe baptism by immersion in the name of Jesus Christ identifies us with His death, burial, and resurrection. As Romans 6:4 teaches, we are “buried with him by baptism into death.” We believe baptism in Jesus’ name is for the remission of sins, according to Acts 2:38 KJV.
Receive the Holy Ghost — Resurrection to new life.
We believe God gives the gift of the Holy Ghost to those who receive Him. The initial evidence of receiving the Holy Ghost is speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance, as demonstrated in Acts 2:4, Acts 10:44–46, and Acts 19:6.
The Gospel is more than a message we hear—it is an experience that changes our lives:
Repent — Death.
Baptism in Jesus’ Name — Burial.
The Holy Ghost — New Life.
We believe Jesus Christ still saves, still forgives, still fills with His Spirit, and still gives new life today.
